Beam

For agencies and service businesses

Automate iMessage reminders, follow-ups and replies

iMessage automation means a workflow, not a person, decides when a message goes out and what happens to the reply. Beam gives agencies and service businesses three automation building blocks: a GoHighLevel Custom Webhook step for triggered sends, event webhooks for reacting to replies and delivery outcomes, and an AI assistant that can answer routine messages and pause itself for a human.

Beam sends from dedicated business numbers. Beam is not affiliated with Apple.

Who this is for

For agencies running reminder, follow-up and reply workflows for several clients, and service businesses that want a consistent message to go out without someone manually sending it every time. A dedicated business line and workspace keep each client's automation separate.

It is not a fit for a team expecting the default GoHighLevel Send SMS action to automatically become an iMessage send, or a workflow that assumes a queued message is already delivered.

What iMessage automation means on Beam

Beam picks the channel per contact: iMessage for an eligible iPhone on a supported line, Android RCS where the recipient's phone and carrier support it, and SMS as fallback. Automation on top of that channel routing has three shapes: a workflow-triggered send, an event-driven reaction to what happens next, and an AI assistant standing in for a person on routine replies. Most real automations use more than one of these together.

How it works

  1. Pick the trigger. A CRM workflow step, an appointment or event in your system, or an incoming reply.
  2. Send through the documented path. A GoHighLevel Custom Webhook step, or a direct call to Beam's send endpoint from your own system.
  3. React to the outcome. Subscribe to Beam's event webhooks for delivery status, replies and opt-outs instead of assuming a send worked.
  4. Decide who answers. Beam's built-in assistant, your own AI agent, or a human teammate, with a clear handoff between them.

Automate with GoHighLevel workflows

Beam's documented GoHighLevel integration uses a Custom Webhook workflow step, not the default Send SMS action. Each request carries a request_key that identifies one intended message, so re-running the same workflow step for the same event returns the original message marked duplicate instead of sending twice. Test with dry_run: true on one contact you control, confirm the real send, then enable the workflow for client rollout. See the full GoHighLevel and generic CRM webhook walkthrough for the exact request body.

Automate with webhooks and your own system

Beam pushes signed event webhooks the moment a message is sent, delivered, fails, a contact opts out, or the assistant books or hands off a conversation. Verify every event against the Beam-Signature header before acting on it. Events are pushed once with no automatic retry in this version, so reconcile anything you cannot afford to miss against Beam's message history on a schedule rather than trusting every webhook to arrive.

Let your AI assistant handle routine replies

Beam's built-in assistant can answer within a configured sending window, propose real calendar availability instead of a generic link, and only mark a thread booked once the calendar confirms it. An angry lead, a legal topic, a refund decision, a stop request or a human reply pauses the assistant for that conversation automatically, with no automatic unpause. If you are building your own agent instead, read connecting an AI agent to iMessage over MCP for the same pause-then-reply pattern.

Keep automation safe

Opt-out handling is enforced at the send layer: STOP and similar language block further sends, including automated ones, and fires a contact.opted_out event. Sending respects a configured window by default, and a request_key stops a retried trigger from becoming a duplicate send. None of this is legal advice. Review Beam's sending limits and your own consent obligations before scaling an automation to every client.

Questions before you automate a workflow

Can the normal GoHighLevel Send SMS action be automated into an iMessage send?

No. Beam documents a Custom Webhook workflow step for automated sends. The default Send SMS action continues to use your default SMS provider.

How does automation avoid sending the same reminder twice?

Each automated send carries a request_key tied to one intended message. Re-running the same trigger for the same event returns the original message marked duplicate instead of sending again.

Can an AI assistant handle the reply instead of a person?

Yes. Beam's built-in assistant can answer routine messages and check live calendar availability, and it pauses automatically for a human on sensitive topics, stop requests or a manual takeover.

What happens to opt-outs in an automated workflow?

Opt-out handling is enforced at the send layer, not left to the workflow designer. A contact who opts out is blocked from receiving further automated sends.

Does an automated send guarantee delivery?

No. A queued status means the request was accepted for paced sending, not that it reached the recipient. Use delivery events or message status to confirm the outcome.

Can agencies automate separately for each client?

Yes. Each client workspace has its own inbox, numbers, team, assistant configuration and API key, so one client's automation does not cross into another's.
